Meet the Authors: 'Genomes and What to Make of Them'

Monday 27th October, 16.00 - 17.00: Faraday Room

Session organisers: Professor Barry Barnes and Professor John Dupre, Egenis

Join Professor Barry Barnes and Professor John Dupre for a discussion on their latest book Genomes and What to Make of Them, an overview of both the nature of genomics and the wider significance its rise to scientific prominence. The book discusses changes within biology in terms of a transition from genetics to genomics and the rise of a more broadly identifiable biological technoscience, centrally involving molecularisation and the import of methods and techniques from elsewhere in the natural sciences. The book then goes on to reflect on how the powers generated in and by this new science are being assimilated into the larger institutional order and are affecting the wider culture.

'Genomes and What to Make of Them' by Barry Barnes and John Dupre is published by Chicago University Press.
